The Angostura European Steelband Festival
After staging its first European Festival in Paris in 2000, Steelpan European successfully staged the second biennial festival in Sète in 2002. The title sponsor for the festival is Angostura Limited, one of Trinidad and Tobago's most prestigious companies. A close working relationship with the Mayor of Sète and the Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Economic Development ensured that the event kicked off the tourist season.
Some of the events included an introduction and concert to over 800 school children, a conference on tuning and building principles with the legendary Ellie Mannette and a concert performance by Sakésho with master musician Andy Narell. Over 25 European steelbands performed throughout the town allowing free access to the public during the two days.
European Steelband Festival 2008
After the meeting of the Executive Committee of Steelpan European on March 24, 2008 in Dortmund our president, Jenny Lee, announced that evening at the “Caribbean Night Party” of Pan Kultur, that there will be a European Steelband Festival
in the first weekend of July 2008 which will be hosted in Dortmund.
At the moment of the announcement Jenny Lee was accompanied on stage by Mr. M. Keith De FREITAS, chargé d’affaires at the embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Brussels.
Already the city of Dortmund, the embassy of Trinidad and Tobago and even the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Patrick A. M. Manning have stated their cooperation in organising this festival.
